The legend herself

Caroline’s Red Wine Review 2022, the world-class showcase of the crème-de-la-crème of Cape red wine presented by Cape Town’s legendary Caroline Rillema, takes place in the V&A Waterfront on Thursday, 28 July.

Only the top 90 accolade achieving winemakers are invited to participate in Caroline’s Red Wine Review held annually for almost three decades, with the exception of the past two years due to the Covid pandemic. Each participating winemaker is given the opportunity to present just one wine – their very best red – on the night.

The winemaker selection criteria include 5 stars in Platter’s South African Wine Guide, trophy and platinum awards at top tier competitions, 96+ scores awarded by Tim Atkin, UK Master of Wine, as well as prestigious accolades across various other platforms. Caroline’s team also handpicks wines they consider world-class that may not have entered any competition or been submitted for ratings by well-known wine commentators.

Some of the brilliant lineup

Being at the centre of a world famous wine growing region, Cape Town has always held legendary status along with the people who make it all happen. Known internationally as the Cape Town purveyor of fine wine to the cognoscenti since 1997, her eponymous stores in Sea Point and Tokai, Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar, are the place to go for the very best and exciting in wine.
