Plenty of room inside if you want to avoid the kids

The place that calls itself Cape Town’s best kept secret is no longer a secret judging from Sunday’s visit when it was packed to the rafters. There are two charming ways of eating here– one in the cute cellar rooms while having a wine tasting with a charcuterie platter, the other with more serious dining to be had at Restaurant Jean

Fabulous under the trees

Either way you will be delighted with the results. This time we went to Jean and had an excellent meal sitting under the trees overlooking the abundant vineyards.

The Chalmar beef sirloin was done to perfection and was accompanied by the most delicious hand cut fries with an aioli sauce and a bowl of yummy Bordelaise to keep the whole thing going.

Superb beef

The bitterballen were a hit– as if they had come straight from Amsterdam, and the catch of the day with a West Coast mussel velouté was superb.

Calamari and bitterballen

The magnificent wines of Klein Roosboom were, of course, the thing to accompany this food. There were many children there and a dog or two, proving that it is popular with families.

Tranquility at its best

You can also have a picnic —spread your blankets on the grass and let it all hang out.

All in all a perfect place to go with your family
