Pierneef a La Motte Restaurant
In Franschhoek, a town that is synonymous with elegance and the finer things of life, La Motte stands out as one of the leaders, not only in style but in the quality of the wine and food there. Their Pierneef a La Motte Restaurant is a much favoured culinary destination in a town that really knows its oats when it comes to food. A further great reason to visit is the art collection focusing on the work of J H Pierneef. The family, Hein Koegelenberg and his wife Hanneli Rupert Koegelenberg, have the highest standards without being fussy about the whole thing.
The just released 2020 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc, with beautiful linocut artworks on the label, pays tribute to the mastery with which Pierneef portrayed the beauty of the South African landscape. In keeping with the very high standards La Motte has set itself—and maintained—throughout the years, the wine is superb, a cracker, as Norma Ratcliffe would say. With exceptional complexity and subtle acidity supporting masses of summer fruit, the wine is a perfect accompaniment to prawns, roast chicken and light Thai curries.—heaven.
All the grapes for this wine originate from the most-southerly vineyards of South Africa with the Sauvignon Blanc (94%) from Elim, Napier and Elgin and the Semillon (6%) from Elim. In acknowledging the unique terroir from which the fruit comes, La Motte Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche says “I am always excited to see how this wine stays true to its Cape South Coast origin”, something you taste in every sip.
The 2020 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc is available online or at the cellar door for R149 per bottle
