Morgenster at Somerset West have for many years had a group of wines which they called the Italian Collection. These wines paid tribute to founder Giulio Bertrand’s favourite operas and singers and were very popular. The Bertrand family there have relaunched this collection of 5 wines under a label which pays tribute to their grandfather and father Giulio.

The late Giulio Bertrand

The NABUCCO is a Nebbiolo which originates from Giulio’s hometown region of Piedmont. This powerful well balanced red wine expresses a multitude of black fruit, spice and floral notes and was definitely Giulio’s favourite.

TOSCA is a blend of Sangiovese and classic Bordeaux varieties; packed with fruit flavours, with some notes of tobacco and oak, it’s a true Italian masterpiece.

RIGOLETTO As a homage to his home country Giulio imported Sangiovese vines from the rolling hills of Tuscany. Today it’s still one of the few estates in South Africa to grow and vinify this versatile Italian cultivar– totally deliciously cool on its own or with food.

The Sangiovese Rosé has been called CARUSO and has a multitude of subtle fruity aromas on the nose and a delicious lingering aftertaste.

The one they call VESPRI is from the classic Italian Vermentino redolent with elegant aromas, vibrant freshness and lingering citrus flavours.

Look for them at your favourite liquor outlet or go online to the Morgenster site —you will not be disappointed
