The Manor House

Nederburg in Paarl is the only winery from South Africa to achieve the top honour for Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2022 The Drinks Business Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters in the United Kingdom, with the 2018 vintage its Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon earning a prestigious Master medal (in the £20 to £30 price category

Private Bin 163

That’s in addition to a duo of golds and silvers attained by other Cabernets in the award-winning Paarl winery’s portfolio. The golds were awarded to the Private Bin Two Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 and 2019, and the silvers to The Manor House Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 and The Winemasters Cabernet Sauvignon 2020. The latter also won a gold medal at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2022.

The Baronne star

It comes in the wake of Nederburg’s Baronne (Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz) 2020 having been scored 92, earning a spot in the top ten list of the Prescient Signature Red Blend Report for 2022.  What is really interesting about the Baronne is that it achieves these high marks at a price of R85  in competition with wines priced well over R250. No wonder it is probably SA’s best-selling Bordeaux style red blend, achieving sales of more than two million bottles– that’s right 2 million bottles– per annum. In other words, every 15 seconds throughout the year somebody is opening a bottle of Nederburg Baronne. If you are not familiar with this wine, now is a good time to get up and see what all the fuss is about.
