If you’re ever down in Hermanus –and who isn’t sooner or later?–after you have seen the whales and walked along the Cliff, you are bound to want something to eat, yes? I can think of no better place to go than to the Italian deli owned and run by Fabio and his family.  This is the same Fabio who’s famous for his restaurant in town which he still owns and runs but the Deli is another story entirely.

Think Italian

Packed with the most spectacular range of Italian products you are likely to find anywhere, ranging from superb cheeses through different kinds of pasta to magnificent meats, this is the place to be when you are thinking Italian.

Ice cream spaghetti–yum

Have some lunch there and do not leave without having his famous ice cream version of Spaghetti Bolognese in which the ice cream comes looking like spaghetti topped with the most delicious fruit sauce. Okay, my picture does not look so good, but take my word for it, it is very interesting and totally delicious   to eat.

Superb gnocchi gorgonzola

The gnocchi are as light as air, fluffy bits of tasty, cloudy pasta, drenched in the most exquisite gorgonzola sauce, but my favourite is the cured beef carpaccio topped with rocket and shavings of magnificent parmesan cheese.

Running a close second are the veal and porcini panzerotti drenched in a burnt butter sage sauce—magnificent.

So when you are down in that neck of the woods do not miss what is becoming one of the most popular places to go to in Hermanus.
