Paul Cluver and Andries Burger–happy chappies

At the top of the mountains above False Bay lies an enchanted valley–strange but true—a valley so high up one can almost feel part of nature at its best. The Elgin Valley has been home to the Cluver family for many years and has been turning out fabulous wines to delight their fans under the sure hand of Cellar Master Andries Burger for 26 harvests, one of the nicest guys in the business.

Champion Chardonnay

Well, they must be doing something right because recent awards have been more than a feather in their cap. Their superb Seven Flags Chardonnay topped a Double Platinum win right here at The Top 100 National Wine Challenge by snatching a Platinum at The Decanter Awards in London. (Remember them? 18422 wines from 54 countries?) Cluver was one of only two SA Chardonnays to get this honour.

Fabulous Pinot Noir

To show that he can do anything, Andries delivered Top 100/Double Platinum awards for Cluver Sauvignon Blanc 2021; Seven Flags Chardonnay 2020; Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2017 and Noble Late Harvest 2021. The Grand Cru National Champion accolades for Best in Class were awarded to Paul Clüver Sauvignon Blanc 2021; Seven Flags Chardonnay 2020 and Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2017. Look for these wines at your local—they are fabulous and will not break the bank. Or better still, fire up the Benz and get to Elgin to taste them where they are grown—unbeatable adventure..And while you are there have a great lunch at their SALT Restaurant
