One of the very best from one of the masters of Chardonnay, Philip Jonker, this is such an exceptional example of its type that you will never forget it once it has passed your lips. It is made from very old vines which cling to the rocks as if they have no intention of ever letting go. The berries are small and intense and the yield is not great. This liquid is a precious gift from the earth.
The wine is barrel fermented in Burgundian barrels and spends 8 months on the lees with battonage every week. The result is intense, with vibrant minerality, and a lingering aftertaste. Sophisticated without being intimidating, every sip is a revelation. Superb with fish and carpaccio—heaven on a plate . Around R200 a bottle—a masterpiece.
