Izele Van Blerk and her wine.

Picture this. No, not Sicily 1926, but London May 2022. Gathered there are experts from all over the world to judge the finest wines the planet has made. There is a team from SA as well, led by our own indefatigable Fiona McDonald. This is the Decanter World Wine Awards, certainly the biggest, and one of the most influential we have. Here were judged this year 18 422 wines from 54 countries in a rigorous complicated system of blind tasting that would take many pages to explain. In the end, guess what? Two SA wines were judged the Best On Show – the best in the world. They had triumphed in the most rigorous and fair system–=and won!

The champ

They were Ken Forrester’s Old Vine Reserve Chenin 2019 and KWV’s The Mentors Cabernet Franc 2019, made by much awarded winemaker Izele Van Blerk.

Ken Forrester

If you haven’t tried these wines, do so before they are all sold out. Believe me –they will be hard to find—soon–and they won’t break the bank either.

Congratulations to Ken and Izele—we are proud of you..
