Aviva Pelham is a name which stands out, and has done for a long time, in South African operatic and musical productions. Her repertoire has ranged from Lehar to Strauss and Verdi and even further to Queen. Much loved as she has been, she has now released a memoir called My Musical Odyssey, and fascinating it is, too, packed with information about her journey and interesting snippets about the people she has worked with. It is lavishly illustrated with photographs and is an absolute must for those of us who love theatre. 15% of all sales will be going to Aviva’s favourite charity, The Amy Foundation which is named after Amy Biehl, who lost her life tragically helping the needy people of SA. This organisation is doing sterling work in uplifting what are often damaged lives and Aviva has been closely connected with them right from the start. The book is available from Aviva herself at R400 and will make a wonderful gift for someone special.
