The Nuy Winery Legacy Calcareo 2024, crafted from the unique terroir of the Nuy Valley, has earned a prestigious accolade at the latest Gilbert & Gaillard International Wine Challenge. Founded 35 years ago in France, this influential wine competition judges wines in different countries of origin on a quarterly basis.
The tasting panel awarded the 2024 vintage of this 100% Chenin Blanc a gold medal and 89 points. The panel was particularly taken with the wine’s straw-yellow hue, its full and ripe aromas of vanilla and stone fruit, flavours of grenadilla and white peach, and a lingering aftertaste of waxy dried pineapple.

Chenin Blanc on the vine
The wine undergoes fermentation in a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks with French oak chips, with lees contact to achieve a harmonious integration of fruit and oak. The versatile Calcareo pairs beautifully with dishes such as chicken pie, creamy soups, fish, pizza, pork with sweet and sour sauce, risotto, and mild cheeses. If you like lightly wooded Chenin this is definitely for you.
The 2024 Nuy Winery Legacy Calcareo is available online at http://www.nuywinery.co.za/ for R165 per bottle or R990 per case of six. Visitors are also welcome at Nuy Wine Cellar’s popular Nuy On The Hill destination along the R60 route, open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, and on weekends from 09:00 to 16:00.
Nuy’s cellar master, Christo Basson, says “The Calcareo, part of Nuy Cellar’s flagship Legacy range, takes its name from the Latin word for the chalky terroir in which the vines for this wine are grown.”
