Having fun Italian style
If you are interested in taking a trip into the country from Cape Town, I really cannot think of many better places to go than to head to the beautiful Paarl area called Suid Agter Paarl Road. There you will find on the Bel Air estate the talented Italian chef called Giuseppe, still making magic after all these years for his delighted guests. In his charming country cottage packed with memorabilia Giuseppe turns out the most delicious lunches on his vine covered terrace.
A table fit for a king.
The menus are decided by you the guest for a minimum of 8 or maximum of 12. When the weather is good, one can have lunch on the covered space outside or you can start there and move inside to go on a feast of note. Discuss the menu with Giuseppe before you go and he will make sure that you have an unforgettable time. Starters could be things like gnocchi, handmade, light and fluffy, with fresh tomato and basil sauce– so far away from those rubbery things you get in the supermarket that you will think you will never had them before.

Or you could have lasagna with roasted aubergines and gorgonzola or risotto with butternut and saffron. Mains might be porchetta filled with figs, or leg of lamb filled with pistachio nuts and red peppers. Then there is slow roasted osso buco gremolata like you have never eaten. Finish off with triple chocolate tart topped with warm egg custard –absolutely delicious.
