Beautiful Eikendal
Those people at Eikendal certainly know what they are doing—- the latest vintages of two of their superb whites landed on my desk recently and reinforced the idea that they are making wines to make one sit up and take notice.
Search them out— you will love them
The Janina 2023 lures the senses with flavours of green apple, lemon, and fresh pineapple –even the occasional grape. Nuances of honey and orange blossoms develop on the palate which are carried through mid palate with a delightful fresh and flinty finish. This gorgeous unwooded Chardonnay is available at R140 (not even 7 Euros these days!) at the cellar and is just the thing for sushi.
The Sauvignon Blanc 2023 has a beautiful light yellow color and boasts a tropical flavour palette with hints of green apple and stone fruit on the nose which follow through to the palate. Crisp acidity aids a full mouth feel and a lengthy finish—superb. Brilliant with roast chicken or pork. R180 at the cellar.
