The home of Boplaas

Boplaas has again been selected to feature among the line-up at the exclusive Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction over the weekend of September 30, with no less than two wines among just over 50 selected for inclusion. All wines in the showcase are rare and unique, produced in small quantities exclusively for the auction.

The wines from Boplaas were produced by Carel Nel, who was invited to become a member of the CWG – an association of many of South Africa’s leading winemakers – in 1988. Since then he has had 36 products on auction including red, white, straw and port wines, and brandy.

The Boplaas wines at this year’s auction will be the 2020 CWG Daniel’s Legacy Red a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca and Shiraz.  It is a rich, complex wine with ageing potential of 15 years and more.  Rated highly by authoritative wine writers, both locally and abroad.

The second wine is the 2005 Cape Tawny CWG Reserve.  This port-style wine is a hand selection of Boplaas 2005 Colheita Cape Tawny that was selected as Fortified Wine of the Year by British Master of Wine Tim Atkin. It shows a lovely tawny colour with notes of rich nutty fruitcake and dried orange peel, with a lingering finish.
