Tokara’s Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon is the overall champion of the 2022 Veritas Awards clinching the Duimpie Bayly Vertex trophy, the top accolade awarded by South Africa’s premium wine competition.
Crowned the best of the more than 1 300 wines entered this year, the 2019 vintage is a classic expression of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon.

A champion among champions
As Tokara’s original focus variety, the vineyards on the midslopes of the Simonsberg, produce three singular expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon: the award winning Reserve Collection single vineyard wine, a premium blend of different sites on the farm, and the prestigious pinnacle cuvée, Telos. Tokara also has a highly acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon-driven flagship blend, the Director’s Reserve Red. All four wines are true renditions of the Tokara terroir and everything the farm exemplifies – refinement, elegance and balance.
“We stand on the shoulders of giants beginning with the generous sharing of knowledge by our illustrious neighbours, Thelema, Rustenberg and Delaire Graff, from our initial plantings in 1996. This award highlights the achievements of our entire Tokara team some of whom have been part of the journey from the beginning to others who have joined more recently,” says Tokara GM Karl Lambour.

Position position
The vibrant, richly textured Tokara Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon showcases an effortless balance between fruit purity and tannin weight on the well-poised palate. Classic graphitic notes and brambleberry interwoven with five spice prevail on the nose and palate. Hints of blueberry, red currant and fynbos scrub add freshness.
