If, like me, the idea of a picnic fills you with trepidation– I mean, after all who can rise from the ground gracefully, especially after drinking a few glasses of bubbly and eating well –then fear not. If the idea of sitting outside at a table beautifully laid with white cloth and silver ware in a 300-year-old camphor forest excites your imagination, then you need dream on no longer.

Elegance in the forest

The picnic at Vergelegen in Somerset West, with personalised service of the highest quality, wonderful food, with the nearest guest many many metres from you Is just that. Take a friend or two, or if you would like an even bigger party, they can cater for it.

Delicious quiche

The standard menu has the most delicious artisanal bread with farm butter, smoked salmon trout pate, a leek goats cheese and chive quiche served with the beetroot marmalade, and superb salads like a coronation chicken served with toasted almond flakes, an ancient grain supa food salad, and a gourmet country potato salad. To top it all, there’s a farm stye layered summer salad with creamy herb dressing and bacon bits and a mini camembert with delicious figs and assorted charcuterie. You will not go hungry that’s for sure.

Indulge the inner you

Aromatic filtered coffee is brought to your table and a homemade banoffee pie is a final flourish.

Great service just for you

They can do an excellent gluten free version of this meal, as I know only too well.  There is a children’s picnic version in case you have youngsters with you, and the adult version is R360 a head, a bargain as far as I’m concerned.

Splendid isolation

The excellent wines of the estate are also obviously available— try cracking a bottle of the bubbly right there. Let your hair down and let your belt out just a notch or two —this is an occasion you and your guests will never forget.
