Kids having fun

Famous landmark

At the Melkbos turnoff on the R27 a little slice of heaven has appeared. This is Die Ou Meul Bakkery and very popular it is with the locals who flock there with the kids. This famous chain started in Riviersonderend with its spectacular pies making it  a must stop when in that area. The good news is apart from great food, famous pies and snappy friendly service, there is a play area for the little ones where they can carry on under the watchful eye of Mom and Dad.

Breakfast is particularly popular with the most perfect poached eggs I have had in a long time on a rich and creamy bed of mushrooms an irresistible choice. The Ou Meul breakfast with bacon, eggs the way you like them, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes and tomato relish is well priced at R80. If you like a kick of sugar for breakfast try the French toast croissant with crispy bacon and syrup, yummy, or if you want to be really healthy the homemade granola with fresh fruit and yoghurt is a good way to go, very filling and you don’t have to feel bad because you have “slipped”. Other breakfast goodies include additions like pork sausages or boerewors –naturally. Breakfast is served until 11.45 and the lunch menu takes over from midday when you will see the appearance of things like generous burgers, hake fish cakes with sweetcorn coleslaw, chicken schnitzels with chips, chicken curry with tzatziki, and superb fresh salads. The excellent coffee is from the Bootlegger Company, there is a wine and beer license, or you can take your own at R30 a bottle.  So nice to find great service –no wonder the place is cooking!! If you can resist taking home some fabulous baked things you are stronger than I that is for sure!

What a fabulous range!!

Could be in Paris.
