Another world.

If the idea of sitting calmly under some gorgeous old oak trees gazing down to the lake where cows graze contentedly while a rescue donkey rolls on his back in exhilaration in a nearby meadow, then Under Oaks in North Paarl is for you.  You can drink their fabulous wine –the one we had is called Blah Blah Blah, a delicious red blend —and order things to eat, tending towards the Italian side of things. Delicious salads like a smoked salmon one generously adorned with feta, and cherry tomatoes –totally delicious, or get one with Parma ham, Gran Padano and olive oil, equally gorgeous.   The piece de resistance is the cheese platter with salami, smoked ham, green olives, crackers, slices of Panini and pesto—irresistible.

Peace and quiet at last!

Of course, the things they are renowned for are pizzas and pasta, with pastas ranging from lasagna to Alfredo shrimp with mushrooms. If this is all too much for you, order chicken burger and chips, it’s your lunch isn’t it?. The pizzas are delicious with the gluten free options ranging from plain Margherita to the Santana with mozzarella, mushrooms, ham, and olives, delicious. The gourmet version of the pizzas includes a Quattro Stagioni with mozzarella, ham, mushrooms, artichokes, and olives -a stunner. If you’ve got kids with you, there are kids’ portions of plenty of things to keep them busy. All in all, a delicious escape to a heavenly place very close to us.

Can you see yourself there?
